Moaning and Groaning….above ground….

I’m moaning and groaning about driving the mail around on a sunny day….listening to the radio and getting to go home at the end of the day….tired but clean.

I’m just tired….whining some.

I’m not down in some mine.

That might be good.

I guess that any job….if you have the wrong mindset…can get old.

Listen to these guys talk about taking care of their families and how they take pride in what they do.

That counts for a lot.

I’d rather get my power from the sun if I could manage it….but you have to admire guys that do something hard to take care of their families.

I should quit whining inside my head.

It’s a good thing to take care of your family.

Faith Walk? No…Faith Drive!

When you buy a Jeep with issues….and then plan to drive it across the country after doing some work to it….it’s a faith drive.

That’s pretty cool.

A combination of skills and experience are the only thing that would allow you to do this.

Or….lack of experience and blind optimism.

When you don’t know what would potentially happen in situation like this, you might start off on a long trip in a car that didn’t deserve any confidence.

I’ve done that.

Now, I know enough to worry about everything.

I love the junkyard shots.

It’s a good thing to see potential in what other people would see as “junk”.

Seeing potential is a good thing.

Here’s a follow-up to this video.

Rainy Mail Day…Rainy Coon Dog Day

Here’s some video from last year’s Coon Dog Day.

This year, I had to deliver the mail on a Saturday because my sub quit.

It poured.

Now, rain makes a day of delivering mail pretty rough.

So does a town full of partying people.

But….when the rain makes the partying people all go home, it’s easy to deliver the mail.

I don’t want the rain to….rain on anybody’s parade….but…I was thankful that the day was easier.

Coon Dog Day is pretty cool.

I wish I was just walking around eating a corn dog and not delivering the mail, though.

That would make it a lot more fun.

Did I mention that it POURED this year?

That was rough on the party.

Trip to the Junkyard? I’d need Some Tools….

I remember the local junkyard loaning me some tools to take something that I thought I needed apart….and then not even charging me for the part that I destroyed before I realized it wouldn’t work for what I thought I needed it for.

Man.

Here’s a guy who made a 30 minute video about what tools you might need at the local pick-a-part.

It’s pretty interesting….if you’re in to that sort of thing.

Australian Couple doing Just Fine on 1/4 Acre Permaculture Homestead

From Happen Films description of this video:

Creatures of Place is an insight into the wonderful world of Artist as Family: Meg Ulman, Patrick Jones, and their youngest son, Woody. Living on an urban 1/4-acre section in a small Australian town, Meg and Patrick have designed their property using permaculture principals. They grow most of their own food, don’t own cars and ride their bikes instead, use very little electricity, and forage food and materials from their local forest. We found their story super inspiring and we think you will too!

Mel Chin!! Going to NYC!! With my Daughter!!

This is the artist…who designed the sculpture….that’s going to NYC….after being built by my daughter, Zoe, and her engineering co-horts….

That is pretty cool.

I met Mel at an unveiling of the sculpture….pre move to NYC….that the artist and engineers had at UNCA earlier in the week.

Mel has a good and mellow sense of humor and I enjoyed meeting him.

This installation of the sculpture and the augmented reality part that goes with it is a big deal.

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen anything like it.

Of course, there’s a whole world of things that I haven’t seen and that I don’t know about….yet.

I wonder how much I’ll see before I leave?

I Quit Days Off!!

My sub left for maybe not so greener pastures….so I don’t have a sub right now.

I also don’t have any people who know my route who are available to run it.

So….basically….I quit days off.

Of course, management freaks out if I don’t take some time off….so, I get a day off when they start to freak out about why I’m working all the time.

If they could chain me up in the basement and bring me a pail of gruel every evening before I laid down on my straw pallet….and only let me out of the basement to case and run the mail around….I believe they’d do it.

My family would have to fill out a police report….and worry about me….until news surfaced of mysterious daily sightings up on Miller Mountain.

I think the USPS would treat me more like a slave if they could get away with it.

But they can’t.

Legally, they can’t.

Dylan is getting rid of his van.

He’s going to start sailing around.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFINGGGGGGGGGGGGG Dylan…..getting to do all this stuff.

You know though….”getting to do” is such a whiny cop-out.

“Doing” is the word.

I’m lucky to have a job.

It’s a good job.

I just want to have the feeling that I have some control over what happens in my life.

Even if I never lost control of that….I never want to feel like it’s disappeared somehow.

When you sign up to do a job, though, you agree to do your best to accommodate the needs of your employer.

So, I’m accommodating.

I need to get a good family road trip in before the summer is out….or….see some water come out of our (soon to be drilled) new well over at the property.

Maybe both would be nice.

I want it all.

I can still see the sky from my open basement window at the Postal Retention Facility.

I see the birds fill an endless sky….flying free….from the vantage point of my straw mattress….while I enjoy my USPS approved gruel.

It’s a big world.

GET ME A SUB!! QUICK!!
