At least I can fix it fast…

If everything works out (?), I’m going to buy a Neon from a guy I work with.

I’m buying it for my eldest son to drive.

It’s a cheap car.

My youngest son isn’t old enough to drive….so….I hope that he won’t take the car out for a spin.

That would be crazy.

Car buying is an inexact science.

You’re buying a pig in a poke….even if you’re buying a new car.

At least now I know that I can fix most of what I could possibly need to do in 10 minutes.

And that’s a complete engine rebuild.

It looks like you have to work fast to accomplish that, though.

Speed is so comforting.

Anthony Bourdain….RIP

Here’s a guy who could be a real hard case.

Here’s a guy who softened while being treated kindly by people who, moments before, had been strangers.

That was the impression I had of Anthony Bourdain.

When you watch any of his shows, see if you can see the appreciation of kindness he radiates when eating in a “strange and foreign land”.

He was a real ambassador.

He was a missionary of a different kind.

He was an emissary.

And….he is gone after his suicide in his Paris hotel room.

What a sad thing all of that is.

We need more Americans like this one.

Maybe the world would like us more if we could all make a good connection like Anthony Bourdain seemed to make when he sat down to eat with a stranger?

date night

A date night is a rare thing for us.

We don’t get to go out as “adults” very often.

We’re a pair….a team…but the team always has a bunch of little participants who make trips out kind of interesting sometimes.

So….if we get a rare moment to go out as a couple….how interesting would it be to hit a good old fashioned juke joint for some down home boogie and authentic blues music?

That would be a real trip!

That would be terrifyingly romantic.

Romantic….spelled M….A….N!

(Think of Muddy Waters…..)

Any date night would be nice.

It wouldn’t be a thing that would give me the blues….even if we spent our night listening and dancing to….the blues.

Running 100km through the Blue Mountain – 100 Reasons – Ultramarathon Documentary

I finished my 9.5 hour mail route in only …ummmm….9.5 hours yesterday….so I got home earlier than I usually do.

That mail route is my ultramarathon.

They say that sitting for long periods of time kills you, though, so it’s a slow death, I suppose.

Here’s a video about an ultra race in Australia.

The “100 km” part made me wonder where in the world it might be.

We aren’t up to speed with the metric stuff, sometimes.

Look at this race community!

Community.

I want that for my family……

I better force my children to start running long distances.

I’d do it myself….but sitting in a truck and opening mail boxes all day is wearing me out.

right up your nose….

I had a hard day at work today.

It was hard…so I was looking up “paradise videos”.

If you can’t see paradise where you are, then maybe you could figure out something by watching YouTube videos.

Here’s Little Jimmy Dickens singing his hit song “May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up your Nose”.

Maybe that’s as far away from paradise as I need to get.

I’m in a good place….even if it feels like it’s something between a rock and a hard place sometimes.

I need to see with some new eyes these days.

I am blessed.

Even if it all feels like a tortured rush….I am so blessed.

May the bird of paradise….fly up….your nose.

Look at this! 1954 Ford F150….restored….

This is a nice restoration.

Built on the frame of a more recent vintage Suburban.

Running gear was from the Suburban, too.

Lots of nice woodworking…but that’s what this guy does for a living at his Preszler Woodshop.

I love to see something brought back from an unusable state.

It doesn’t have to be a truck, either.

How about an old house and barn?

I better get on it.

Here’s a video about his canoe building.

The guys name is Trent Preszler.

Good work!

our next vacation

Here’s the place where, for an undisclosed admission price, you can walk over 6 miles of trails through this huge collection of junked cars.

NOW THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD VACATION FOR MY FAMILY!

Forget a fine museum or zoo…..miles of old and rusty cars is “where it’s at”!

I don’t know if any of these parts are for sale….so I suppose we’d have to go somewhere else to get a souvenir of our vacation.

Maybe they’d have some good ones when we exited through the gift shop?

For more information….check out their website at www.oldcarcityusa.com

Noisy Jeep…

My Jeep was making this noise when I got it back from the mechanics.

They didn’t fix the original problem….and now I have this noise.

Gack.

It’s still making this noise.

Who knows what it is.

This is the kind of video I watch when the machine is falling apart.

But….after 280,000 miles….maybe it’s time for it to fall apart?

Whatever it is….it’s not a good sound to hear coming from your engine.

I can’t worry about it all the time, though….I’ve got to sleep sometime.

You know?
