See the World….episode 7

Here’s another one from Iohan…..See the World episode 7.

These, like I’ve said week after week, are great videos….gentle and humorous and beautiful.

I don’t think that you can see the world in such detail unless you’re traveling in a way that’s a little slower than a car or a train.

Seeing it from the saddle of a bicycle is the way to go.

It’s cold here today….and we’re laying low and watching Christmas movies….drinking cocoa and eating cookies.

That’s a good way to go, too.

There’s nothing wrong with laying low if you can’t be out in the world….seeing it all from the slow moving perch that is a bicycle seat.

Thanks again for all the nice videos, Iohan!

Elliot Fisk plays the cello music on the Guitar

I heard an interview yesterday with Elliot Fisk, who’d transcribed Bach’s Cello Suites to guitar.

This doesn’t have anything to do with that….but I thought it was kind of cool anyway.

I love hearing interviews with real artists…people who’ve lived their art for a long time….people who have put in the work and excelled because of it.

Awww…..what the heck?

Here’s some Bach….and some cello.

It doesn’t get much better…..

voice like a horn

Kenny Rankin….man.

Kenny Rankin was so good in so many ways…..a real musician.

Here he is doing a version of Blackbird.

I woke up late this morning and rushed through the day….and this is a good way to close it all out in a quiet way.

How about another Kenny Rankin video….just to cement the mellow mood.

That might be nice….

knowing that there’s a big world out there doesn’t mean that your own corner of the world is any less big….it just means that you know that that there’s a big world out there.

My world is pretty darn big right where I am.

The only thing that makes it feel small, really, is knowing that there is a lot more to see out there…..a lot more to see that’s really not hard to get to unless I’m doing something….that makes it hard to get to these places.

That’s where the frustration comes in, if there’s any frustration at all.

I post all these films and write about things that I’m not doing right now, too, and that’s kind of strange.

I’m not running…. only doing a little and very sporadic bicycling.

I am just delivering the mail, which, by itself, isn’t all that big an adventure.

It’s not a big adventure, unless I notice all the wildlife and look out over the new vistas that suddenly appear when all the leaves drop….and, in middle of my frantic hurry to “beat the clock” and make my evaluated time, I notice that it really is a kind of adventure, even if the “adventure” is something that I do in the same way every day.

Maybe that’s the real skill?

Learning how to drain every bit of adventure out of what I’ve decided is mundane?

Recognizing that there’s really no boring situations, only bored and boring people?

Somebody on the route made us an apple cake, but I forgot to bring it home.

That’s pretty nice.

I could make a great Vimeo movie about me enjoying a delicious apple cake, get out the GoPro (buy a GoPro first….so that I could get it out)….take some aerial shots of my mouth enjoying the apple cake.

It’s all perspective….and I fight to keep mine in a place that’s close to acceptable and tolerable.

It’s a big world no matter where you’re standing.

Just because I think that something over the rainbow is going to be a little bit more exciting than where I am right now doesn’t mean that I can miss the good things close at hand.

Over in Yosemite

Funhog.

That’s OK….most of the folks I really admire and get along with are funhogs….or, maybe, reformed funhogs.

When you have kids you grow up some….sometimes.

But…wait….there’s no reason to give up fun when you have kids.

You can live in Yosemite if you want.

Yoiu can even make an artistic movie about your life and where you live….there’s just going to be more people in the shot.

Funhog.

That would be fun to be a funhog.

It’s a lot of fun to have more people in the shot, too.

See the World…episode 6

It’s Sunday…and time for another in Iohan Gueorguiev‘s video series, See the World.

This time it’s SEE THE WORLD 6: Copper Canyon and The Backroads of Mexico.

These videos are so great…so full of gentle humor and good vibes.

And….you get to see things out in the world that I don’t know how I’d get to see, otherwise.

Iohan is still out there riding his bike, still travelling, so my Sunday morning routine is safe for a little while, at least.

I think that he has 12 of these videos so far.

Of course, I can type faster than he can ride, so at some point I may have to figure out something else to write about on Sunday.

That’s OK….there’s no sense trying to wait him out while he gets another video together.

I’ve got a life, too, you know.

it’s the soundtrack

I have a buddy at work who comes in early and gets the mail ready for us…to get ready to take out on the mail route.

He blares good rock and roll while he works….and if I get in early enough, I can listen and get energized before everybody else gets there and we have to turn it all down….or, even worse, off.

I know that it’s the soundtrack that gets the ball rolling.

Everything else is just going through the motions without a good soundtrack to keep things rocking.

Look at this video…it’s a short one this time….about Yvon Chouinard’s son, Fletcher, and his surfboard business, FCD Surfboards.

Look at the life in this video!!

I don’t think they really expect or encourage us to be creative at the USPS.

It’s not like it was at art school.

It’s not like that.

But…a rogue bit of rock and roll in the morning, surreptitiously blasting before we’re found out, really gets my day started off right.

It’s all about the soundtrack….and I control the soundtrack whenever I can.

Rock on….and …..be creative.

If you aren’t creating, you’re dying.
