no brass ring

We went to a big amusement park with the kids…young and old….last weekend.

I’ve outgrown a minimal interest in the more brutal rides…so I rode the easy stuff with the youngest of the children.

We even got to ride the carousel.

I looked for the brass ring…but I guess that they don’t do that anymore.

There wasn’t one.

There is no brass ring on the carousel.

That’s sad if you go fishing for a pessimistic analogy to tie the world up and hold it down….

What do we have to reach for if we can’t see a goal that’s attainable or worthy?

What drives us when the world melting is getting us down?

No brass ring…

I guess you just have to enjoy the ride….and look for the brass ring with every revolution…hoping to see something that you know isn’t there.

What the heck?

THROW ME A BONE, DUDE!! PUT THE FREAKING BRASS RING BACK WHERE I CAN GRAB IT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE!!

Do me a solid….even if it doesn’t really mean anything.

I need some hope when the weather gets hot…

Simple Living in a Tiny Forest Home….

This is a tiny house.

Tiny…and, like all “tiny houses, it’s on wheels so, if need be, it can be moved to a different location.

I’m tired of the tiny house movement….too trendy….but something like this makes me like it all over again.

Salvaged material….clever construction….and built for all the right reasons.

We actually saw a “tiny house” at last years Apple Festival….and it was on the opposite end of the equation…built only to serve the needs of people glomming onto the “tiny house trend”….commercial and gross and way too expensive.

When we build Isaac a tiny house over at the property, I hope it will be something as nice as this.

This video is another excellent one from “Living Big in a Tiny House” YouTube channel.

Carl Larsson

Image result for carl larssonWe went to Ikea this past Saturday and they were selling prints by an artist named Carl Larsson.

He and his wife, Karin, are given credit with being some of the originators of the Swedish style.

It’s some good stuff…and it was fun to get reacquainted with this artist and his work.

No surprise really that they were selling Carl Larsson prints in the Ikea store.

Ikea is a pretty Swedish place, after all.

Now…this is MUSIC!

Alicia….and….NO MAKEUP!

Of course, that’s not the main story….but….good for you, Alicia!

Let the real you come through!

And….wait for it…here comes John Mayer.

This is so much fun…playing music together.

What could be more fun than that?

Why’d God make us like this?

How’d we get so many things to be grateful for?!!

Music!

Man….I love it so much.

Little Yo-Yo

Awwwwwww…..SWEET!!

Here’s a young Yo-Yo Ma playing for President John F. Kennedy.

This is important and beautiful….and what a wonderful and amazing thing to be able to know at such a young age that what you loved could be a vocation.

Pretty darn cool.

Yo-Yo never stopped being cool, though.

Cool at 7…cool today!

“Garden Party” Rick Nelson

Heard an interview with James Burton this morning.

He was the guitarist at Elvis’ comeback shows in Las Vegas in 1969.

He was also the 16 year old guitarist in Rick Nelson’s TV band when they were both on the Ozzie and Harriet Show.

Interesting the paths some folks lives take….

Here’s Rick Nelson’s “comeback song”….Garden Party from 1972…written after being booed for playing his new songs at a Madison Square Garden “oldies” show.

Good stuff….

dirtbag runners

Some people know that it’s more important to spend your money on experiences than on possessions.

I do a lot of thrift shopping…so I buy a lot of possessions….but….a lot of them are things that I hope will foster new experiences.

Of course, thrift shopping can become such an obsession that you spend all your time “gearing up”…and never take time to experience.

Boo.

Bad idea.

Here’s some characters who consider themselves “dirtbags”…who travel cheap and run in interesting places.

Sounds good to me.

I saw a book called “Outlandish” by Morgan Sjogren that looked pretty cool.

It’s a recipe book of sorts….tales of adventure and some of the food that fuels you while you’re out in the world.

That book and one of the reviews of it led me to the “Dirtbag Runners“.

Seems like a good way to go….cheap and light…out doing the things that drive you.

Here’s one of the Dirtbag’s videos….not much trail running in this one…Havasupai Falls looks like an amazing place!

And…check out the Fred Beckey documentary on Amazon Prime….the original dirtbag!
