needs me some plaid

If I was going to do it like my ancestors did it, I don’t suppose I’d be wearing a bunch of plaid.

I don’t think that I’d wear a skirt, either.

(I guess it’s called a kilt….)

I’d probably be wearing a really uncomfortable hat with horns poking out of the sides.

That would be hard to sleep in.

This guy does a good job….sleeping out in the plaid.

Watch how he closes down his camp, too.

He takes care of the place, for sure.

AND NOW, FOR OUR FALL SCHEDULE….IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING “THE BACHELOR” ON THE SPOOKY NETWORK….BUSHCRAFT DREAMS!

There’s something kind of calm about watching people doing “bushcraft stuff” out in the cold woods.

You’d never see something like this on your TV, though.

Most folks want to see some football players dance….or find out who gets the rose after a whole bunch of screwing around trying to find “true love”.

I like this kind of thing, though.

Check out the LL Bean pack, too.

Maybe it’s all about buying more stuff…no matter how practical and old school it all is?

I like the pack.

And….Noah Gunderson at the beginning of the video!

Cool.

making it…cheap motorcycle

Cheap is relative.

I don’t think that these guys have a lot of money in this bike….but they have a lot of time and a lot of skill invested.

It’s fun to watch something come together like this.

It doesn’t matter what language you’re speaking….mechanics share a common tongue.

Where’s OSHA when the sparks are flying and your feet are bare?!

Hah!

simple and cheap….Mora knife

Mora makes some good knives that are designed to work.

There are a lot of fancy knives out there…so it’s refreshing to see the options that are common and inexpensive.

This knife that the guy in the video is using is about 15.00.

That’s not bad for a tool you can count on working when you need it to.

I’m cheap….thrifty.

Show me something inexpensive that works….and I’m all in.

Scandinavian people!

Who’d think that they’d produce a product that’s a thrifty choice that also works extremely well?

endless prayer

Following last Christmas, we got to spend time out West.

“West”.

The elusive and appealing West.

I love it out West.

While we were out there, we visited Jenny’s brother and his family at their place in Colorado.

Before we ate, he gave the blessing….and it was long.

A whole bunch of “thankyou’s”.

I thought he’d never run out of things to find to be thankful for.

That’s the way to pray!

The Bible teaches us the Lord’s Prayer when we wonder how we’re supposed to pray.

I think that a prayer that is brimming with observant gratitude is a good way, too.

That’s what it’s all about, after all, isn’t it?

Seeing that we have so much to be thankful for, right?

It’s the day after Thanksgiving….but there’s still room for noticing all the things that we need to be thankful for.

Thankyou….thankyou….thankyou.

I could do that all day long.

An endless prayer.

With a Twist…Jimmy DiRestra Builds a Canoe…

Look at this!

It’s a thing of real beauty!

And check out the “new” technology he used to build it!

CNC!

Are you going to make this in your garage with a handsaw, some clamps and a bunch of sandpaper and glue?

I don’t think so.

But…people used to do things in low-tech ways.

Maybe you could whittle out a canoe?

I don’t know.

I love to see “process”!

It is so much fun to see how people do things!

I could watch people do stuff all day long!

Holy Smokes! New York City Bicycle Courier….Day in the Life!

We were just talking the other night about how terrifying the driving was in NYC.

How about riding a bicycle around those crazy streets?

That would be pretty wild.

And….when you watch this….you really have to ask the question, “Yeah…WHY BOTHER WEARING A HELMET?”

You’d be pretty much screwed if somebody opened a door or moved their taxi over a foot or two while you were trying to ride by.

I worry about somebody in a monster truck crushing me on our backwoods highway while I’m riding.

I should watch this before I go out for a ride and put it into perspective.

Having a greater fear is a good way to get over a smaller fear, right?

House of Wood? Trees Must Fall….

Here’s a documentary about Canadian loggers.

Man.

That’s some tough and dangerous work.

And….those are some beautiful trees.

If you use wood products….live in a house made of wood….I suppose you shouldn’t cry about cutting down these old beauties.

We don’t want to know where the products we use come from.

You don’t want to look a cow in its big brown eyes before you tear into your tasty hamburger.

I guess that you don’t want to see the trees coming down, either.

This is some insane work.
