what you do with what you’ve got…

Nate and I ran in a race the other day….

It was a fund-raiser for his school.

It made me think of this song.

We ran in the non-competitive division….and, because our part of the race was scheduled for the very end of the competition and….we were pretty slow, everyone was heading out when we crossed the finish line.

But…we had a blast running around in the woods and jumping over obstacles and riding our bikes.

I thought of this song because there were a lot of “greyhound” mommies and daddies at the race.

I don’t know if they all fit the topic of this song or not.

Being in shape doesn’t automatically mean that you aren’t empathetic.

Everybody isn’t like a Si Kahn song.

But….maybe some of them were.

It’s hard to say.

Nate and I ran to be together….and to have fun….with each other.

I wonder if the ones who “ran to win” can say the same?

I hope so.

“making space to remember who you are…..”

Here’s a short film about a singer named Maggie Rogers.

I don’t know much about her….other than the little bit I’ve heard about her song “Alaska”.

There is so much music that is “manufactured” these days….music that has no artistry or real soul….but I get the impression that her music is genuine.

That’s a good thing these days.

Here’s the song and video for “Alaska”.

Dylan Magastar in Mexico….throwing a 45 lb. weight plate around in the desert. Hahahahahhahahahaah….ha

So silly….so informative.

This is the fun kind of travelogue.

Dylan and Rael down in Mexico…with some tips and observations.

I’m getting ready to drive my short loop….but….I know there’s a lot to see out in the world.

I don’t even need to throw a weight plate around to feel like I had a “real” experience.

Dylan? What you doin’ with that weight plate out in the desert?

Thanks for the movies, Dude.

24 hours=155.39 ….Courtney Dauwalter….ultrarunner

Holy Smokes!

155.39 miles in 24 hours….and a new American women’s endurance record.

Man.

The men’s world record is 188.59 miles.

The women’s world record is 156.7….set by Mami Kudo.

This is pretty freaking unbelievable what some people can do.

It’s pretty unbelievable what all of us can do….if we put our minds to it.

But….this is pretty far outside of the normal stuff that people can do.

Superhero stuff….155.39 miles!

That’s cool.

The Ruby Muir Story….trail runner….New Zealand!

From the YouTube description:

Ruby Muir is one of New Zealand’s most promising young trail runners. At just 21 she had won the Kepler, Tarawera Ultra and nearly every other event she’d entered. This is the story of how she discovered running, what drove her to it and how it has helped her heal. This film was shot in one day at Eskdale Mountain Bike Park near her home in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.

This video is from 2013.

Jenny told me that they needed farm workers and people with practical skills to emigrate to New Zealand.

How about that?

It’s nice here….it’s nice there….but what an adventure that would be.

Awwwww….it would be an adventure to move to Idaho, too.

Why….it would even be an adventure to drill a well on the other NC property we own.

New Zealand would be a “big adventure”.

I don’t think that I could run as fast as Ruby Muir….wherever I ended up.

Maybe I need some of those shoes where you could tell I had 5 toes?

Maybe another thing would help me run fast?

New Zealand looks amazing.

“and don’t spend time with anything that antagonizes your character….”

I’ve used this before….but….thinking again about the line I used in the title made me want to use it again.

“Decrease your options” is good advice.

The shotgun approach…fire more, aim less….doesn’t work.

I’m not arriving at a good place by constant distraction and diffusion.

Things can be even better than they are….and things are good right now.

What would “even better” be like?

Now….I just need to implement the good changes.

The “plan” is nothing without the action.

I like positivity.

$1.5 million will buy you this….

This guy never used the word “dirtbagger” when describing this really expensive “overland vehicle”.

No dirtbagger ever wanted something like this.

Who could pay for a vehicle like this when you’re sleeping in an army surplus sleeping bag and eating cat food?

What kind of person would think that this is an appropriate addition to an outdoor lifestyle?

I know when I go out into the woods that I want as much delicate electronics in my vehicle as possible.

It’s a different sort of mindset that would make you want something like this.

I’d sell the Hummer and get one of these to go to the grocery store in.

You never know what you’re going to run into on the way to Ingles.

What a crock….

getting outside…

All this running….hiking….mountain biking….

Maybe it’s all a reason to be outside?

This is a good video about a Finnish ultrarunner name Noora Honkala.

And…it’s a bunch of running in some beautiful natural settings.

It’s good to be out in Nature.

It’s good to be out running.

country boy/girl can survive….

After the storm….these guys made out OK!

It’s a good thing to grow your own food….

I did the rear brakes on the little Toyota truck that I’m using to run the mail….because the Mail Jeep is down right now.

It’s a pain to keep up with all these vehicles….but I’m thankful to have a spare.

Sometimes, a slower paced lifestyle looks pretty good to me.

Puerto Rico is an interesting place.

Part of the US of A, right?

You almost wouldn’t know it.
